Zeref reveals the story of his cursed life to Mavis in Fairy Tail's 266 episodes.

Zeref shares the story of his childhood and how he came to be afflicted with his deadly Curse of Contradiction. Lucy Heartfilia also know as the dark queen is married to Zeref Vermillion brother of Mavis Vermillion so she is known as Lucy Heartfilia Vermillion. Her and Zeref are 400 years old together they where married at the age of 18.

Lucy's mother, Layla Heartfilia, died from an illness due to her second pregnancy with Lucy when she was a little girl. Her father, Jude Heartfilia, over-indulged in work and lost his life as well. Since then, no one has seen or heard of any of the four men ever again. If a Celestial Mage is found he/she will always either be taken away by the Spirit King immediately or killed by him no matter the circumstance. Aspiring to become a "full-fledged" mage, Lucy visits ,where she meets Natsu Dragneel, Happy and Gray Fullbuster who she discovers are members of Fairy Tail. After bonding with them on a job and discovering that Zeref taught Natsu and Happy how to use their magic and Natsu is Zeref's younger brother.

While most spellcasters admire Mavis for her achievements, his father Zeref loves her as well. He personally felt that the girl had a purer, more beautiful heart than any other person he met. And that is why the king fell in love with her and made her his wife while they are both still young, and thus beget a child.
